Preamble

Anjuman Islam Janjira Degree College of Science, Murud-Janjira, is committed to nurturing students from rural, coastal, and socio-economically diverse backgrounds by providing quality education, personal guidance, and holistic development opportunities. In alignment with our mission to empower youth through education, the Mentor-Mentee Scheme is introduced as a structured platform to bridge the gap between students and faculty, ensuring continuous academic support, personal guidance, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Our institution is located in the rural, coastal town of Murud-Janjira in Raigad District, Maharashtra, with a significant number of first-generation learners. We recognize the unique challenges our students face, and through this scheme, we aim to provide personalized support to help them succeed academically and personally.

Objectives

  • To provide academic, personal, and emotional support to students.
  • To create a structured mechanism for monitoring student progress, attendance, and performance.
  • To address student challenges such as academic difficulties, health concerns, or socio-economic constraints.
  • To guide students in career planning, higher education opportunities, and skill development.
  • To establish consistent communication between parents and the college regarding student welfare.
  • To cultivate a nurturing environment for building confidence, academic excellence, and overall personality development.

Implementation and Structure

Mentor Allotment and Scheme Framework:

  • The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) prepares the Mentor-Mentee list at the beginning of every academic year.
  • Faculty members serve as mentors and are allotted mentees from various classes and programs.
  • Mentees include all enrolled students in U.G. and P.G. programs running in the institute for the academic year.
  • The Mentor list is published on the College Notice Board and the official website.
  • Final-year students are encouraged to assist first-year students as peer supporters under mentor supervision, promoting a friendly and inclusive environment.

Role and Responsibilities

Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Maintain detailed academic and personal records of mentees.
  • Conduct regular interactions and individual counseling sessions.
  • Identify slow learners and provide additional academic support through remedial classes.
  • Motivate advanced learners to engage in research, competitions, and career-enhancing opportunities.
  • Monitor attendance and academic progress, keeping parents informed as needed.
  • Refer students to appropriate support systems within the college, such as counseling, health care, or financial aid.
  • Act as a bridge between the college and the students' family, fostering transparent communication.

Mentee Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in mentor-mentee interactions.
  • Share academic and personal concerns honestly.
  • Engage in orientation sessions, remedial programs, and other academic activities recommended by mentors.
  • Maintain regular communication with mentors for guidance and support.

Communication Tools and Support Platforms

  • Academic discussions, syllabus guidance, and important announcements are shared through WhatsApp groups and Google Classroom.
  • Diagnostic tests are conducted at the beginning of the academic year to assess prior knowledge and identify learning needs.
  • Orientation programs are organized to familiarize students with college policies, academic structure, and available support systems.
  • Subject-specific study material, assignments, and tests are made available through digital platforms to encourage continuous learning.
  • Remedial classes, particularly for English language improvement, are conducted to support academically weaker students.

Feedback and Monitoring

At the end of every academic year, students must fill out the Mentor-Mentee Feedback Form, reflecting on their experiences and providing suggestions for improvement.

Mentors document student progress, challenges, and achievements through confidential records, reviewed by the IQAC for continuous improvement of the scheme.
